The $50,000 Surprise: Fueling a Growing Ministry

(2001)

One day after phase 1 was complete, phase 2 nearly complete and phase 3 still a dream, a man walked through the door of that 1910 house. He handed the ministry a check for $50,000—with one condition: It had to be used as a matching gift to build the addition to accommodate large groups of teens with a stage and a sound system to shake downtown.

It was a God-sized surprise. Soon, 89 dump truck loads of dirt in the side yard were dug out, support beams and walls went up and construction began in earnest.

Matching Faith

That single gift challenged others to step up. Donations of money, materials, and time poured in. Volunteers showed up with tools and skills. Within months, the $50,000 had been matched and multiplied.

The impact was bigger than walls and paint—it was a faith marker for everyone who witnessed it. God wasn’t just building a space; He was building faith. Ministry continued and grew even during construction

Why It Mattered

The matching gift meant DYM could finish construction and expand ministry capacity. But more than that, it showed that when God moves, His people respond. With the addition completed, over 250 people sat around tables celebrating the new space.

Generosity multiplies impact. One person’s obedience can unlock blessings for many.
